Tech Fun for the Whole Family

For the Sheridan family, the Pi Mile 5K Road Race is a fun reason to return to campus. Last year, the two youngest children, age 8 and age 6, placed first in their divisions.

History of the Dean George C. Griffin Pi Mile 5K Road Race

A tradition since 1973, the Pi Mile was originally named the Dean George C. Griffin Pi Mile to honor the longtime Georgia Tech track and cross-country coach. The first race in 1973 was 3 miles long and founded by alumnus L. McTier "Mac" Anderson, CL ’67. This was expanded to 3.14 miles after 1975 and is now a 5K race. Part of the race is run along the Tyler Brown Pi Mile Trail, a running course dedicated to former Student Government Association President Tyler Brown who ran daily for ROTC and was killed in action in Iraq on September 14, 2004.
