| | 6 | Gamewatching party Come watch the Yellow Jackets take on NC State in basketball in the Thrillerdome. We'll gather for the 4:00 PM game at Buffalo Wild Wings in Asheville at 4 Tunnel Road (just on the other side of the tunnel from downtown).
This is a new venue for us for a gamewatching, and it promises to be a good one, with more convenient parking and an extensive menu covering more than just wings.
Call John Woodson for details or to let us know if you are coming. 828-645-4293 or at jwoodson.im74@gtalumni.org | | 17 | Board Meeting The Board of Directors of the Georgia Tech Club of Western North Carolina will meet at 6:00 PM at the Clarion Inn - Airport (formerly Holiday Inn - Airport) for dinner. | | 7 | Baseball Picnic @ Asheville Tourists Join fellow Georgia Tech alumni and families for a fun Sunday afternoon at McCormick Field in Asheville as the hometown Tourists take on the Blueclaws from Lakewood, NJ. We will gather at 1:00 PM for a delicious lunch of spaghetti or lasagna with Greek salad, as we fellowship in the VIP Party Tent beside the Tourists' bullpen, sponsored by Little Venice Restaurant and WOXL-FM 96.5 (the "oldies" station in Asheville.) The game will begin at 2:00 PM, and we will find an area in the stadium where we can sit together as a group.
Cost will be $9.65 per person, and includes both the meal and a general admission game ticket. Send your check along with your name, email address, and the number of tickets being purchased to John Woodson, 1178 New Stock Road, Weaverville, NC 28787. A number of tickets are being purchased in advance to assure availability. Latecomers may be able to buy tickets at the gate, but will not be guaranteed into the picnic (overall limit of 96 tickets, and we are not the only ones who will be attending.) Tech football game. No matter what happens, Tech is assured a win! (We hope it's the Yellow Jacket variety). If you can't make it all the way up to Blacksburg, just come as far north as Weaverville to watch with a bunch of other Yellow Jacket faithful.
The game is at 3:30 PM on ABC, and weather permitting, we plan to grill hot dogs and hamburgers about halftime. Come out a little early and interact with our llamas!
It will be BYOB and bring a side dish, first-half snack, or dessert to share. We'll provide the burgers and hot dogs. RSVP so we can plan on a number and send you directions.

| | 17 | Gamewatching party and board meeting Come watch the Yellow Jackets take on Miami in Miami on ESPN. We'll gather for the 7:30 PM game at Wild Wings Cafe on the south side of downtown Asheville. It's near McCormick Field, and next door to Foam and Fabric on Biltmore Avenue. This is the same place several of us have gathered to watch bowl games in the past, and always provides a great atmosphere for a gamewatching party. With the exclusive prime-time game on a Thursday night, there will be less competition for screens, and the game should be visible from any seat in the house. The September board meeting will be held during this event, at halftime, or during pre-game, or at a convienient break in the action. Call John Woodson for details or to let us know you are coming. 828-645-4293 or at jwoodson.im74@gtalumni.org | October 2009
| | 10 | TEAM Buzz Project John Woodson has signed up on a Habitat for Humanity workcrew for Saturday, October 10, which is TEAM BUZZ day this year. The house being constructed is in the Enka Hills area on Warren Haynes Drive, and is this year's Episcopal House, being sponsored by 4 local Episcopal churches. The workday will be from 8:30 AM until about 3:00 PM. If you would be interested in helping on this worthwhile project as our TEAM BUZZ community service this year, contact John Woodson at 828-645-4293 or at jwoodson.im74@gtalumni.org | November 2009
| | 5 | Luncheon with Stan Pamfilis of WLOS-TV Our annual Luncheon will again be in November this year, on Thursday, November 5, at Ryan's Family Steak House on Brevard Road. Ryan's is just past Biltmore Square Mall if you exit I-26 at Brevard Road (Exit 33). We will meet at 11:30 AM and the only cost is the cost of your meal. Everyone can choose the well-stocked buffet or order from the menu, then come to our reserved room to eat.
At around 12:15, we will be honored to have Stan Pamfilis as our speaker. He is the sports director at local WLOS-TV in Asheville, and also has connections to Tech, as he grew up in Atlanta and has family connections to the North Avenue landmark Junior's Grill. He plans a brief talk, and will save a lot of time for answering questions; so if you want his opinion on any topic, bring your questions!
So that we can know about how many to expect, if you plan to attend, contact Jim Crafton at 828-692-4273 or at craftonj@mchsi.com |
