| | 23 | Clemson Football Game Do we want to try to get a group together to travel to Death Valley for the annual matchup between the Yellow Jackets and Tigers? We used to charter a bus, but the cost became prohibitive for the number of people who were attending. We are considering carpooling or renting a van, and purchasing a block of tickets for those who want to go as a group. Let us know your thoughts... Contact Jim Crafton at 828-692-4273 or at craftonj@mchsi.com; Jack Webb at 828-697-0361 or at jackandmary@mindspring.com; or John Woodson at 828-645-4293 or at jwoodson.im74@gtalumni.org. |

| | 17 | Gamewatching party and board meeting Come watch the Yellow Jackets take on Miami in Miami on ESPN. We'll gather for the 7:30 PM game at Wild Wings Cafe on the south side of downtown Asheville. It's near McCormick Field, and next door to Foam and Fabric on Biltmore Avenue. This is the same place several of us have gathered to watch bowl games in the past, and always provides a great atmosphere for a gamewatching party. With the exclusive prime-time game on a Thursday night, there will be less competition for screens, and the game should be visible from any seat in the house. The September board meeting will be held during this event, at halftime, or during pre-game, or at a convienient break in the action. Call John Woodson for details or to let us know you are coming. 828-645-4293 or at jwoodson.im74@gtalumni.org | October 2009
| | 10 | TEAM Buzz Project John Woodson has signed up on a Habitat for Humanity workcrew for Saturday, October 10, which is TEAM BUZZ day this year. The house being constructed is in the Enka Hills area on Warren Haynes Drive, and is this year's Episcopal House, being sponsored by 4 local Episcopal churches. The workday will be from 8:30 AM until about 3:00 PM. If you would be interested in helping on this worthwhile project as our TEAM BUZZ community service this year, contact John Woodson at 828-645-4293 or at jwoodson.im74@gtalumni.org | November 2009
| | 5 | Luncheon with Stan Pamfilis of WLOS-TV Our annual Luncheon will again be in November this year, on Thursday, November 5, at Ryan's Family Steak House on Brevard Road. Ryan's is just past Biltmore Square Mall if you exit I-26 at Brevard Road (Exit 33). We will meet at 11:30 AM and the only cost is the cost of your meal. Everyone can choose the well-stocked buffet or order from the menu, then come to our reserved room to eat.
At around 12:15, we will be honored to have Stan Pamfilis as our speaker. He is the sports director at local WLOS-TV in Asheville, and also has connections to Tech, as he grew up in Atlanta and has family connections to the North Avenue landmark Junior's Grill. He plans a brief talk, and will save a lot of time for answering questions; so if you want his opinion on any topic, bring your questions!
So that we can know about how many to expect, if you plan to attend, contact Jim Crafton at 828-692-4273 or at craftonj@mchsi.com | February 2010
| | 6 | Gamewatching party Come watch the Yellow Jackets take on NC State in basketball in the Thrillerdome. We'll gather for the 4:00 PM game at Buffalo Wild Wings in Asheville at 4 Tunnel Road (just on the other side of the tunnel from downtown).
This is a new venue for us for a gamewatching, and it promises to be a good one, with more convenient parking and an extensive menu covering more than just wings.
Call John Woodson for details or to let us know if you are coming. 828-645-4293 or at jwoodson.im74@gtalumni.org | May 2010

Wear your Yellow Jacket colors and let's show off our club to the community!

| | 22 | Annual Family Picnic Our annual Picnic will be held again this year at Jackson Park in Hendersonville, on Sunday, August 22. There are a lot of recreational opportunities for all ages, including horseshoes, bocce, skittles, a playground area, and we want to make this a true family event. We want to encourage everyone to come out and spend a fun Sunday afternoon with us. The pavilion is ours from 3 PM until 7 PM. Iced tea and soft drinks will be available. Come out early and enjoy the activities, and the food will be served around 5 PM. We have reserved Pavilion #1, which is large enough to handle a large number of people.
This year we plan to furnish fried chicken, drinks, and all paper products for a nominal cost of $5 per person, and ask those attending to bring a side dish or dessert for a pot luck picnic. Deadline for receiving reservations is Monday, August 16. Keep this date noted on your calendar, and we hope to see you there!
Mail your reservation and check to the Georgia Tech Club of WNC, 898 Indian Hill Road, Hendersonville, NC 28791. Contact Jim or Shirley Crafton (scrafton@mchsi.com or 828-692-4273) for more details. |
