15Walking Tour of Historic 'Frisco!

Being residents of the Bay Area, sometimes we get lost in our daily grind and forget that we live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world! San Francisco has so much history and culture to offer, so there's always sure to be something new to learn!

On that note, please join us for a walking tour of San Francisco along the Barbary Coast Trail, where we'll spend our time seeing various historical sites of downtown, learning about the trail's history, and finishing with lunch at one of the many cafes along the trail. The plan is to start at the Old Mint, a national historic landmark, visit Hallidie Plaza, Union Square, one of the first public squares in SF, Maiden Lane, a sunny street with a shady past, St. Mary's, the first cathedral in the western US, and Chinatown, including the "street of the painted balconies." We'll finish up with lunch in Chinatown or Little Italy, depending on what the group prefers. This is going to be an nice, casual walk through downtown, and a great opportunity to meet new people! Hope you can join!

For questions or to RSVP, please contact Tom Addy at tomaddy@mac.com.

26Alumni Dinner Gathering

Since great food and great company are always a *perfect* recipe for a fun night out in the city, we've organized a dinner gathering at Canto Do Brasil Restaurant in the Hayes Valley area of San Francisco. Not only do they have some fantastic Brazilian food (at a really decent price compared to other restaurants in the city), but they also offer a free samba dancing show on Saturday nights! Now in this economy, who can turn down a deal like that?!

So, please join us for this event to meet new people or catch up with some old friends. Feel free to bring along other friends/family, but space is limited to 20 people so be sure to sign up early! Hope to see you there!

Please contact Cindy at 415-683-0877 or cynthiarosser@yahoo.com for more information.

4Alumni Day at Laird Winery

For those of you who may enjoy a glass or two (or three) of wine every now and then, here is *your* event! We've got a special day planned at Laird Family Estate, which is owned and operated by our very own Georgia Tech Alumn Ken Laird (ME '57). Join us for a fun-filled day to include a winery tour, wine tasting, and picnic lunch up in Napa with Ken Laird himself!

COST: $70 per person. This cost includes round-trip transportation to/from the winery, wine tour/tasting, and a picnic lunch. We will also provide some light drinks and snacks on the bus to complement the scenic ride!

TIME: 9AM - 4PM (or earlier). We will meet in the parking lot of Sports Basement in San Francisco (Address: 610 Mason St, The Presidio, San Francisco, CA 94129). Also, we will have time to visit a second winery and still make it home at or before 4PM, so for those who have a suggestion for a 2nd winery (consider proximity to Laird Winery as a factor), please provide your suggestions and we will make a final decision on the 2nd winery a few days before the trip. Cost for wine tour and/or tasting at the 2nd winery will be out-of-pocket and will NOT be covered in the $70 event cost.

PAYMENT: We are accepting payment for this event via the following methods: (1) Paypal (sent to the email address: northerncalgtalumni@gmail.com) ; or (2) By check, made payable to "Northern California GT Club." Please mail all checks to: 1032 Irving St #232, San Francisco, CA 94122.

Payment must be received by Friday, September 19, 2008, to secure your spot in the group. Once payment is received, we will send the individuals an email to confirm payment.

*** PLEASE NOTE, THIS EVENT REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF 30 PEOPLE TO ATTEND, OTHERWISE WE WILL CANCEL THE EVENT!!! ALL PAYMENT MUST BE RECEIVED ON OR BEFORE SEPT. 19. If we cannot reach the minimum participation required by Sept. 19, we will provide a full refund to those individuals who have already paid.

As usual, feel free to bring along other friends/family, but space is limited to 40 people so be sure to sign up early! Hope to see you there!
