Technique Publishes 'Survival Guide' for Students

What does it take to make the dean's list at Georgia Tech?

In its annual "Survival Guide" for freshmen the Technique student newspaper observes that it "only takes a 3.0. Sounds easy doesn't it."

The newspaper adds almost tauntingly, "Just wait."

Tech's largest freshman class of about 2,800 students got a hard-nosed reception from the newspaper concerning the rigors of academic life.

In its dictionary of essential terms it defines the letter A.

"The first letter of the alphabet. It also allegedly appears on grade reports. We'll believe it when we see it." As for "Faculty Honors," the newspaper notes it requires a 4.0 and quips, "Keep dreaming."

Students get some hope for preparing for exams under the newspaper's definition of "Word."

"Old tests and notes to help you study for tests," the Technique states. "Some professors change their tests all the time, but remember that most people are lazy."
