Professor Named Teacher of the Year — Twice

Tim Patterson

Tim Patterson, PhD 91, a professor in the Institute of Paper Science and Technology was named teacher of the year by two separate student organizations — the Graduate Student Government Association and the student chapter of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry.

Patterson teaches the Pulp and Paper II courses for paper science students as well as chemistry and chemical engineering students, in a program that involves trials on an actual paper machine. This year's project explored maximizing paper clay content — research that benefits Georgia’s pulp and paper and kaolin clay industries.

The IPST was an independent graduate school before it was integrated into Georgia Tech a year and a half ago.

"Having the paper science students vote Dr. Patterson this year's best teacher is very impressive, but having the entire student body of graduate students vote him the teacher of the year validates the quality of the IPST faculty," said Jim Frederick, IPST director.
