Ford ES&T Building Will Enable Innovative Research
“Can we meet the needs of the people living on the planet Earth today without jeopardizing the well-being of future generations?” Tech President Wayne Clough asked that “perilous question” at the dedication of the Ford Environmental Science & Technology Building on May 16.

Ceremony Celebrates Tech Medal of Honor Winners
Marine Gen. Raymond G. Davis, America’s most decorated living soldier, and three other military heroes were recognized in a ceremony May 19 dedicated to Georgia Tech’s Medal of Honor recipients.

Tech Student Wins Fulbright Fellowship
Last spring, computer science and applied mathematics major David Eger studied math in Budapest, Hungary. Eger learned he’ll be returning to Budapest courtesy of the U.S. State Department. He is the second Tech student in two years to win a Fulbright Fellowship.

Venture Team Wins $250,000
Georgia Tech's Venture team won $250,000 in funding for placing third at the Carrot Capital Business Plan Challenge. The Tech team was one of 20 finalists selected from 740 submitted business plans.

Brain Waves Control Robotic Device
The Hybrot, a small robot that moves about using the brain signals of a rat, is the first robotic device with movements controlled by a network of cultured neuron cells.

Tech Team Forecasts Monsoon Relief
A new method for forecasting monsoon-season weather in Bangladesh could improve agricultural production in south Asia and equatorial Africa, according to Georgia Tech climate researcher Peter Webster.

OIE Names New Director
Howard Rollins is the new director of the Office of International Education. He will also join the faculty as a professor of psychology, a position he has held at Emory University for the past 35 years.

GIFT Advisory Council Taps New Chairman
Georgia Tech’s Center for Education in Science, Mathematics and Computing and EMS Technologies Inc. announced Michael Robertson, director of EMS Human Resources, has been named chairman of the 2003 GIFT Advisory Council.

Computing Team Reaches RoboCup Finals
Keith O'Hara, Matt Powers, Bart Presnell and Ram Ravichandran reached the finals of the RoboCup American Open May 2-4. The students, led by assistant professor Tucker Balch, programmed a team of four-legged robots to play soccer autonomously.

GT Motorsports Captures Fourth Place in SAE Competition
The Georgia Tech Motorsports Club placed fourth in a field of 129 collegiate teams at the U.S. Formula SAE competition in Pontiac, Mich., in May. Teams are required to design, build and compete in a single seat race car in a series of competitions that challenge the team's knowledge of design, performance and durability.

Campus Recreation Center Nears Completion of First Phase
The first phase of the Campus Recreation Center complex, including the newly enclosed aquatic center, is scheduled to be completed in mid-July and open Aug. 4.
