Thunderstorms may have rained on the parade of parents and students on campus for Family Weekend Sept. 14 and 15, but they didn't dampen their spirits.
A record crowd of more than 2,100 people — a total of 610 families — attended this year's event at which they participated in stimulating seminars, informative college and school receptions, campus tours, a tailgate party and a gridiron battle between Tech and Boston College.
Friday afternoon rain showers resulted in the cancellation of a street festival at Technology Square. That evening, more than 1,000 guests ditched their plans to picnic under the stars for a screening of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" in Yellow Jacket Park and headed to the Student Center theater to see the flick.
Amy Lancaster, Parents Program manager for the Alumni Association, observed the inclement weather subsided just in time for Saturday's festivities. "We were definitely sad about the street fair not taking place but the weather at the tailgate and game was picture-perfect," she said.
