Prized Pictures

Guests aboard Alumni Travel tours not only visit some of the world's most thrilling destinations while reminiscing with fellow alums about their campus days — they also polish their picture-taking skills.

Alumni, families and friends who participated in an Alumni Association-sponsored tour during the past year were invited to submit photos for the annual Alumni Travel photo contest. Seventy-four photographs were judged by the Association's staff in four categories: People, Places, Culture and Nature.

The first-place winner in the People category was Jeri Corbitt, the wife of Jim Corbitt, EE 67, MS EE 68. Her photo, "Lunch Break at Denali," was taken on a tour of Alaska's coastal wilderness.

The award-winning photo in the Places category was "Russian Kaleidoscope Architecture," which was taken by Joan Murphy, the wife of Tom Murphy, IM 62, on a Journey of the Czars trip in July.

Captured on a 2006 Czars tour was the Nature category winner, "Summer Sunset on Lake Onega," submitted by Jonathan Dorris, IE 05.

Placing first in the Culture category was Taylor Wittel, AE 57, for the postcard-worthy "Moon Over the Acropolis" picture, taken aboard a tour of the Greek Isles.

The winning entries in each category were revealed at the Alumni Travel Preview reception in September. Each winner received a $100 voucher for future Alumni Travel tours, a Georgia Tech picture frame and photo album and a book filled with tips on how to take extraordinary photos.
