Family Weekend Showcases Tech Experience

More than 2,100 parents, prospective students and family members from 39 states and the Cayman Islands were welcomed by blue skies and ideal weather for FamilyWeekend Oct. 6-7.

A slate of informative and entertaining seminars on Friday gave families an opportunity to learn about all aspects of campus academic and extracurricular life. The day's events included bus tours, college and school receptions and a festival near the campanile. More than 200 people dined at the sold-out mystery dinner theater and more than 1,000 people relaxed to visit with their students and catch a movie on the lawn.

The Saturday tailgate attracted more than 1,100 people who were treated to a major Atlantic Coast Conference football rivalry when the Yellow Jackets defeated the Maryland Terrapins 27-23.

Joe Irwin, president of the Alumni Association, called Family Weekend one of the marquee fall events. "It's a wonderful way to showcase the campus, the programs and the vitality of Tech to parents of current and potential students," Irwin said.
