Tech Weightlifters Trying Out for Olympics

Two of Tech's own will be trying to make the Olympic team during the nationally televised weightlifting trials hosted at the Ferst Center for the Arts on May 16 and 17.

The top 60 ranked men and women weightlifters from across the nation will be competing to represent the United States at the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.

Chandler Alford, an undergraduate mechanical engineering student, will be competing with the top 30 ranked men, and alumna Gwendolyn Sisto, AE 05, will be competing in the women's trials.

Sisto is pursuing a master's degree in aeronautics and astronautics at MIT. She also has started her own business, Botev Sports, and works full time as a foreign military sales contract repairs manager at GE Aviation.

The tryouts will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. May 16 and from noon to 4 p.m. May 17. Tickets are $11.25 and may be purchased at
