Brown Tapped for Georgia Hall of Fame

Kevin Brown, baseball's first "$100 million man," will be inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame May 19 in Macon joining other state sports luminaries such as Ty Cobb, Dale Murphy and Hank Aaron.

Brown, a native of McIntyre, Ga., enrolled at Georgia Tech in 1983 as a chemical engineering major and joined the baseball team as a walk-on. Three years later, the right-hander was named to the 1986 All-America team by The Sporting News and was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the first round.

Brown played 17 years professionally with the Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Florida Marlins, San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, posting a 211-144 record with 2,397 strikeouts. He made six appearances in the All-Star game and led the Marlins to the 1997 World Series crown. He was named one of the top 100 pitchers of all time by MLB.com in 2005.

Brown made headlines in 1998 when he negotiated a seven-year $105 million contract with the Dodgers. In 2003, Brown was traded to the Yankees but he was plagued with injuries and retired in 2006.
