Photos Tell Centennial Story

There's a story behind many of the photos we've received to create a Photomosaic cover of the Ramblin' Wreck for the centennial history of the Alumni Association.

"This is a wonderful way to honor your family," said Tench H. Phillips Jr., of Virginia Beach, Va., who has a white and gold bloodline.

In addition to his own photo, Phillips is supplying images of his dad, Tench H. Phillips Sr., who was a 1922 classmate of George C. Griffin; two uncles, "Pup" Phillips, Cls 19, an All-American football player under John Heisman who played on the team that beat Cumberland 222-0, and Johnny Phillips, Cls 32, who played basketball for the Yellow Jackets.

Charles Spencer, Mgt 72, MS Mgt 74, submitted a photo of himself wearing blue jeans and T-shirt standing next to Dean Griffin in a suit.

"Dean Griffin was an old family friend of my grandfather, Louis Cleveland Clark, who was a Tech football player, and I did yard work and maintenance for the Griffins at their house for several years while I was at Tech," Spencer explained.

Heather Shankwiler, MS Mgt 99, submitted a photo of her as an infant in the arms of her grandfather, Sherman Dallas, the first dean of Georgia Tech's College of Management.

Submit your photo to alumnipix@gtalumni.org and submit those of other family members you'd like to honor on the cover of this historic story of Georgia Tech's alumni and the association they founded.

Order your copy of the coffee table book for $29.95 and save $10 off the cover price at www.gtalumni.org/centennialbook.
