It's time to revamp your resume and dress for success — the 2007 Alumni Association Career Fair and Conference is just around the corner. The 24th annual event will be held March 28 at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta.
Career fair participants may submit a two-page resume for inclusion on a resume CD, which will be distributed to all participating employers. Companies will refer to the CD as a recruiting tool throughout the year. The deadline to submit a resume is 5 p.m. March 26.
Representatives from more than 100 companies are expected to attend the conference, at which they will meet Georgia Tech alumni face-to-face. Among the companies already registered to attend are Aflac, Cingular Wireless, Gulfstream Aerospace, Kurt Salmon Associates, the Office of Naval Intelligence, Printpack Inc., Prime Engineering, Scientific Atlanta, Siemens Energy & Automation and Waffle House Inc. A complete list of participating companies may be found at gtalumni.org/site/CCAttend.
"I would always encourage people who are attending a conference like this to come in prepared," said Caroline Taylor, the Alumni Association's senior manager of Career Services and Networking.
"Go in there with a game plan in mind," Taylor said. "Do research about positions the company might be offering and the work that they do so you can discuss with the employers potential opportunities and how you might fit into their positions, culture or environment — whatever you find appealing about the company."
Prior to the conference, Taylor and Len Contardo, vice president of Constituent Services for the Alumni Association, will be offering two free workshops at the Alumni House designed to assist alumni in preparing for the event. A March 6 workshop from 6 to 7 p.m. will provide tips to alumni on improving their resumes and researching the companies that will be attending the conference.
A second workshop is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. March 13, at which alumni will learn strategies on how best to manage their time at the career fair and get the most out of their interaction with employers.
To RSVP for the workshops contact Caroline Taylor at caroline.taylor@alumni.gatech.edu.
