Daniel Compton

Georgia Tech and Atlanta police are asking the public for help in finding a missing Tech senior.

Daniel Compton, a fourth-year computer sciences student, was last seen at Moondog's bar in Buckhead about 1 a.m. on Feb. 17, said Capt. Ronnie Weaver of the Georgia Tech Police Department.

"The student lived off campus so we are working in conjunction with the Atlanta police, but so far, there is nothing to indicate foul play," Weaver said.

Compton's father, James, who lives in Houston, and other relatives came to Atlanta and handed out fliers near the bar.

"Right now, the biggest thing is to get the word out," James Compton told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "This is very unusual. There's no reason why Dan would take off."

Compton told the newspaper that he last spoke to his son on Feb. 15. A week later, he received an e-mail from one of his son's roommates saying Daniel was missing. He said Daniel had not spoken of any plans to leave town and there has been no recent activity on his cell phone or debit card.

Police say Daniel Compton could be driving a 1998 Honda Civic with a Texas tag C91CKV. Anyone with information is asked to call Georgia Tech police at (404) 894-2500 or Atlanta police investigator Mike Loy at (404) 853-4235.
