Arizona Club Joins ACC Spring Bash

Georgia Tech's involvement in the Atlantic Coast Conference has become a friendly Spring Bash picnic in Arizona, where 250 families representing 10 of the 12 schools gathered for food and fun in April.

"It was a smashing success," said Philip T. Corbell, GE 68, club president. "Mike Van Epp did a tremendous job of coordinating and setting up this event. I think everyone had a really great time."

Corbell said Van Epp, CE 03, made only one request — ensure that it would be a sunny day.

"I don't know if I would want to take credit for that, as we exceeded 100 degrees this year on that afternoon, with an official temperature of 101, and in some places it was actually 105," Corbell said.

Kids found relief in water balloons.

As for the adults, Corbell said, there were enough breezes to keep the socializing comfortable. "All of us out here in Arizona can take the heat."

It was comfortable enough for a variety of games and activities, including kickball, horseshoes, baseball catch, three-legged races and, of course, the refreshing game of water balloon catch.
