Career Services Lands Award

BY Leslie Overman

The Georgia Tech Alumni Association's Career Services department has received a national award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.

The 2006 Alumni Career Fair and Conference has been awarded a silver medal in the council's 2007 Circle of Excellence Awards program. The event was among 64 entries competing in the Alumni Relations Programs category.

"This affirms our place as one of the top alumni career programs in the nation," said Len Contardo, vice president of Constituent Services for the Alumni Association. "It further demonstrates the commitment by the Alumni Association to offer innovative events to our alumni."

More than 800 alumni preregistered for the Alumni Association's 23rd annual conference, at which they met representatives from more than 100 companies. The conference featured a breakfast seminar with Rosita Smith, business development manager for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, and a luncheon address by Joe Evans, IM 71, founder and managing principal of Bankers' Capital Group LLC, then chairman and CEO of Flag Financial Corp.

This is the fourth national award for Career Services. In 1999, 2001 and 2003, the department received CASE Circle of Excellence Awards.

"The annual career fair and conference is truly a unique event, appealing to both active job seekers and alumni interested in networking in their professional area," Contardo said. "Over the past 24 years, the conference has adapted to the changing needs of our alumni by offering more educational programs and networking opportunities."

Career Services plans to expand the conference's offerings in the coming years. "We are exploring on-site career advisement and new workshop topics. Also, we have a continued commitment to attracting diverse, innovative and high-quality employers for our alumni," Contardo said.
