Smart Summer Issue

The atrium of the Atlanta hotel that lifted John Portman to international acclaim is on the cover of the Summer issue of the Georgia Tech Alumni Magazine, which will be mailed to Roll Call donors July 5.

Portman, Arch 50, reflects on his stellar career in "Design for the Human Experience." The human experience in metro Atlanta is brought into focus in a series of stories on "Smart Growth" and highlights the work of Tech alumni and students on Atlantic Station, the Beltline, PATH, the Downtown Connector and streetcars.

Elsewhere in the Summer issue are the beautiful images captured by photographer Kristi Odom, Cls 02, and the "tacky, fancy" designs of Pecan Pie Couture's Clint Zeagler, ID 04.

Did you know that George Burdell and his missus celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary? Garrison Keillor did. Other achievements reported in the magazine include the women's tennis team's NCAA championship and the awarding of a contract for the United States' first facility to obliterate solid waste with a plasma torch. Another business has gotten off the ground. ImagineAir, launched by recent Tech graduates, is the Southeast's first air taxi service.
