Team Nets White House Visit

The Georgia Tech women's tennis team clinched its first NCAA championship in May and won an invitation to the White House for a photo with President George W. Bush.

Bush hosted college teams that had won titles ranging from bowling to skiing on the South Lawn for Champions' Day on June 18.

"I appreciate the fact that you've endured tough practices, that you've set big goals and you worked hard to achieve them," Bush said.

He called the athletes from 21 campuses champions on and off the field.

"You can win on the athletic field and you can win in the classroom but you can also contribute to our country by helping somebody in need by using your championship status to help heal a broken heart or to help somebody live a better life," Bush said.
