Clough, Klaus Among Most Influential
![]() Wayne Clough President Wayne Clough and Christopher Klaus are among TechJournal South magazine's "25 Most Influential People in Southeast Tech." The magazine, in its November issue, said that during Clough's tenure as president, "research expenditures have increased from $212 million to $425 million, a required computer initiative for all students began and enrollment has increased from 13,000 to 17,135. The school obtained more than $1 billion in private gifts." Clough earned bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering at Tech and a doctorate at the University of California-Berkeley. "Clough has been recognized for his teaching and research, including a total of nine national awards from the American Society of Civil Engineers," the article continued. "President George W. Bush appointed Dr. Clough to the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology in 2001, and in 2004 Bush nominated him to the national science board. Clough's other service activities include vice chair of the U.S. Council on Competitiveness and co-chair of the 2004 National Innovation Initiative." Also on the "most influential" list is Christopher Klaus, Cls 96, founder of Internet Security Systems and Kaneva, the online entertainment company for which he also serves as chief executive officer. In 2000, at age 26, Klaus made a $15 million gift to Georgia Tech to help build the Christopher W. Klaus Advanced Computing Technologies Building. |
