An illustrator who has caricatured Georgia Tech personalities for many years has helped the Alumni Association usher in its centennial year.
Bob Braun created the cover illustration for the Winter 2008 edition of the Georgia Tech Alumni Magazine in which the Wreck rambles into the centennial year carrying Joe Irwin, president of the Alumni Association; Meade Sutterfield, current chair; Janice Wittschiebe, past chair; Bill Todd, chair for fiscal year 2009; and Wayne Clough, the first alumnus to serve as president of the Institute.
Inside, readers will find an excerpt from the newly published history of the Alumni Association, "Ramblin' Wrecks From Georgia Tech," as well as an interview with Marilyn Somers, director of the Living History program, about the making of the companion DVD, "TechTone News."
The Alumni Magazine takes readers to Europe for two articles. Alumnus Bill Coley left retirement and the United States to serve as Britain's nuclear chief. An Alumni Travel tour took a group to the Emerald Isle, where they met the leaders of Georgia Tech Ireland and learned about the ambitious research initiative.
Can you imagine going to Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta and seeing a virtual ghost re-enacting a scene from Civil War days? Two Tech faculty members detail how they are creating augmented reality in "Is It Live or Is It AR?"
Elsewhere in the issue, subscribers will read about toy maker Roger Andresen, architect Niles Bolton, a book written by Tech professor Terry Maple and former congressman Newt Gingrich and award-winning faculty member Bonnie Heck Ferri.
The Georgia Tech Alumni Magazine is distributed in print and electronically to Roll Call donors. To receive the quarterly magazine, visit http://gtalumni.org/site/Page/RollCall/.
