Astronaut and Tech alumna Sandra Magnus will fly to the space station this fall.

Astronaut Sandra H. Magnus is scheduled to fly to the space station this fall.

Magnus, PhD CerE 96, will serve as a flight engineer and NASA science officer for part of Expedition 17 and part of Expedition 18 transporting International Space Station expedition crews.

She made her first space shuttle flight in October 2002 on a space station assembly mission, logging in 10 days, 19 hours and 58 minutes. She operated the space station's robotic arm during three spacewalks required to outfit and activate a component to the station.

In July 2005, Magnus was assigned to the ISS Expedition Corps to begin training for a long duration mission aboard the station.

Magnus was selected by NASA in April 1996 and completed two years of training.
