Gold & White medal winners will take to the podium Feb. 7 to accept the awards from the Alumni Association.
Twelve awards will be presented during the Gold & White Honors ceremony and celebratory dinner at The Foundry at Puritan Mill in Atlanta.
Four men will receive the Association's highest honor, the Joseph M. Pettit Alumni Distinguished Service Award. This year's recipients are Gary Jones, IM 71, a retired investment banker; A.J. Land Jr., IM 60, chairman of Pope & Land Enterprises; Edward Roe Stamps IV, IE 67, MS IE 72, founding managing partner of Summit Partners; and Michael Tennenbaum, IE 58, senior managing partner of Tennenbaum Capital Partners.
Named for the late Georgia Tech president, the award recognizes a lifetime of leadership, achievement and service to the Institute and the community.
Pettit, it was said, "never compromised on principle or on his vision of excellence (and he) had the respect and loyalty of everyone who worked with him and the love and friendship of many."
The Alumni Association renamed the award in Pettit's honor after his death from cancer in 1986.
The Community Service Award, named for the late Dean of Students George C. Griffin, will be presented to Ray Anderson, IE 56, founder and chairman of Interface Inc., and David T. Smith Jr., ChE 63, who "retired" and became the assistant director of the Brunswick and Glynn County Development Authority.
The Outstanding Young Alumnus is Troy Rice, IE 01, president of the Georgia Tech Club of the Palm Beaches and the Georgia Tech Young Alumni Council and manager of Supplier Performance for Florida Power & Light.
