Dining Halls Do Away With Trays

Georgia Tech dining halls eliminated the use of trays in mid-November to save about 3,000 gallons of water each day.

Eliminating the need to wash dining trays is only one of the water conservation programs being implemented, according to Rosalind R. Meyers, associate vice president of Auxiliary Services.

An air-compressor ice machine has been installed in Brittain Dining Hall to replace a water-compressor version. This air-compressor machine is expected to save more than 300,000 gallons of water annually.

Housing also has replaced all of its laundries' washers from top-loading machines to front-loading ones, which use less than half as much water.
