Four Georgia Tech alumni who have excelled in their professional careers and philanthropic endeavors will receive the Alumni Distinguished Service Award during a Gold & White Honors ceremony on Feb. 7 recognizing 12 outstanding individuals.
Alumni Association President Joseph P. Irwin said the 12 recipients have made exemplary contributions to Georgia Tech and their communities.
The Joseph Mayo Pettit Alumni Distinguished Service Award, the Alumni Association's highest award, will be presented to Gary Jones, Mgt 71, retired managing director of global sales for Credit Suisse USA, Atlanta; A.J. Land, IM 60, chairman, Pope & Land Enterprises, Atlanta; E. Roe Stamps IV, IE 67, MS IE 72, founding managing partner of Summit Partners, Miami; and Michael Tennenbaum, IE 58, senior managing partner of Tennenbaum Capital Partners, Santa Monica, Calif.
The Dean Griffin Community Service Award, named for the late Dean of Students George C. Griffin, will be presented to Ray Anderson, IE 56, chairman, Interface Inc., Atlanta, and David T. Smith Jr., ChE 63, assistant director, Hercules Inc., Brunswick, Ga.
The Outstanding Young Alumnus for 2008 is Troy Rice, IE 01, supervisor, Florida Power & Light Co., North Palm Beach, Fla.
Honorary alumna status will be given to five women: Jeanne Ferst, Joanne LeCraw, Dorothy Poole, Marilyn Somers and Carolyn Stewart.
"Georgia Tech and the Alumni Association have been the beneficiaries of the remarkable work and passion of its alumni and friends over the years," Irwin said. "The Gold & White Honors is but a small recognition for the contributions that these recipients have made to advance the Institute and society."
