Alumnus Alfred P. "Al" West, founder, chairman and CEO of SEI Investments, will speak at the undergraduate commencement exercises at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Catherine Brechignac, president of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in France, the largest scientific organization in Europe, will speak at the master's and PhD ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15.
Brechignac, a renowned scientist and scholar in the area of nanophysics, and Cecil J. "Pete" Silas, ChE 53, former chairman and CEO of Phillips Petroleum, will be awarded honorary doctorates during the commencement exercises.
West, AE 64, who received the Joseph Mayo Pettit Alumni Distinguished Service Award in June, has been a generous supporter of Georgia Tech. Just two of his gifts to the Institute include a $2 million donation for the Alfred P. West Fund in Educational Technology and an $8 million pledge for construction of an undergraduate learning center.
