Making Dreams a Reality

Chris Dalbec used the analytical and design skills he honed in his Georgia Tech engineering classes to help an event planner make her client's dream of a "fairy-tale wedding" come true.

Dalbec, who graduates with an electrical engineering degree Aug. 4, scoped, designed and erected a 40-foot-wide, 11-foot-tall castle facade for a wedding in June coordinated by Errika Mallett, ISyE 96, owner and managing partner of Simple Elegance Event Planning in Atlanta.

He also was finishing his last semester at Tech, helping build the set for DramaTech's production of "Rumors" and serving as the sound operator for the play.

Mallett sought out DramaTech's help when she realized she needed an "awesome design for this unique wedding. DramaTech does this all the time, so why not give a student from DramaTech a chance?"

Her Tech connection proved sound. "Guests at the wedding could not believe the lifelike quality of the castle," Mallett said. "The mammoth size and meticulous attention to detail overwhelmed the bride and groom."
