If you frequent gtalumni.org or look at just about anything from the Alumni Association, you've most likely seen them — a guy and a gal sporting gold polo shirts, dark shades and pearly whites, she with her fist thrust in the air. It's about time you were introduced.
Michael Patrick Smyth, CE 94, and his then-fiance, Karen Habra, caught the eye of the Alumni Association's photographer at the Homecoming 2005 football game. Since then, their mugs have been spotted on the Alumni Association's Web site and in Tech Topics, the Georgia Tech Alumni Magazine and a number of brochures for alumni events.
"We have always attended every single Homecoming event," said Karen. "We first noticed our photo was in Tech Topics and on the Web site in 2006, when someone from our tailgate pointed it out. We have someone weekly tell us they see us online."
Nearly a year and a half after the photo was taken, Karen and Michael are preparing to celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary. The couple got hitched April 22, 2006, in Atlanta. More than 50 Tech alumni attended the ceremony.
Karen, a real estate agent with the Muffley & Associates team at Keller Williams, and Michael, a senior architect with Anderson Press, are expecting their first child in September, "just in time for the Boston College game," Karen said. The couple have not yet picked out a Yellow Jacket jersey or cheerleading outfit for Baby Smyth — they've decided not to find out whether they're having a boy or a girl.
The Smyths' faces next will be gracing the cover of the Alumni Association's coffee table book celebrating the organization's 100th year in a Photomosaic of the Ramblin' Wreck. To ensure that your face leaves an impression on your fellow alumni, submit your photo at alumnipix@gtalumni.org.
