![]() What began as a student-driven effort seven years ago to clean up areas of metro Atlanta has evolved into a nationwide effort by Georgia Tech volunteers to give back to their communities. On Oct. 23 — TEAM Buzz Day — Tech students, faculty and staff and volunteers from Georgia Tech alumni clubs around the country will spend the day participating in community service projects. TEAM Buzz was started in 1997 by Tony Chan, IE 94, MS IE 98, while he was a student, as a way to combine the forces of the Tech community with metro Atlanta service organizations to have a significant philanthropic impact on a local level. Since its inception, TEAM Buzz has grown in scope and participation each year. Past alumni projects include working with Habitat for Humanity, landscaping at housing projects, schools or nursing homes, painting houses for a low-income elderly residents, working at food banks, cleaning trails in parks and sponsoring blood drives. "Participation has proven to be an important educational experience, an opportunity to work together with other Georgia Tech alumni on a project that is worthwhile for the community, as well as an opportunity for personal growth," said Jane Stoner, senior manager of clubs at the Georgia Tech Alumni Association. "I am thrilled to have so many clubs and alumni throughout the country participating this year."
