Victory Over Georgia Gives Stathis 200th Win
![]() Georgia Tech hockey coach Greg Stathis celebrated his 200th regular season win as Tech defeated arch rival Georgia 4-3 at the Marietta Ice Arena Nov. 12.
The Yellow Jackets skated to a 4-1 lead then had to hang on as the Bulldogs scored two power play goals in the last 10 minutes.
Stathis, in his 14th season as head coach, said, “It was a great win, especially since it was against Georgia. We lost a lot of seniors, so this is a rebuilding year for us and Georgia was the top gun in the South. This win turned some heads all over the country.”
Tech special teams scored three power play goals in the first two periods and right wing Amos Fernandes scored the game-winning goal early in the third period. Tech penalties gave Georgia an opportunity to close the gap, but goaltender Nick Rice shut out the Dogs in the waning minutes to give Stathis victory No. 200.
