The Process

Living History interview candidates are selected from Georgia Tech alumni, faculty, and friends. Candidates are mailed an invitation to participate in the program. If interested, the candidate returns a reply card, and is contacted by the program director to set up an interview time and location.

After an individual interview appointment has been made, the Living History staff researches the candidate's Tech experiences and life accomplishments. Registrar enrollment records, library archival material, Institute history books, and the alumni database are used to create a background folder for the candidate.

Interviews usually take place in the home of the candidate. Technicians audio and video tape the interview. Interviews are conversational, with the candidate sharing life stories and the interviewer asking questions. The interviews usually take three hours to complete. When the interview team returns to the Alumni Association, the video and audio tapes are copied. Within a few days, a video recording is sent to the interviewee. In-house staff watches the video and creates textual documentation to make the interview an easy to use resource. The Georgia Tech Archives stores the master video and audio tapes, as well as the master documentation. A copy of the video is kept at the Georgia Tech Library circulation desk for patron use.
